It's Time For Baking For The Fallidays With Culinary Lavender!
Hello Lavender Lovers!
It has been a busy, busy year so far and it's hard to believe we are almost into fall! We had a fabulous summer with farm tours and our second U-Pick event. We really enjoy having people out to the farm to share the unique beauty of the lavender and the pollinators all working together. We are working on adding more cutting flowers so that people can put a little variety in the bouquets they pick. This year we just did zinnias, but they were a huge success, so in the spring we will be planting some other types of flowers.
The honey harvest is in, and we are currently processing and bottling it up for our annual honey event. We got about 50 pounds more honey this year than last year! Guess our bees were tired of being known as "sleepy".
Other than that, Jerry and Farmer Jim are out pulling out some of our very first field plants that were badly damaged 2 years ago in the drought. It hurts to see our hard work go, but we have learned a lot since then, so the new rows will drain much better and look prettier too!
This year we have decided to do an online segment we are calling Baking For The Fallidays With Culinary Lavender. Culinary Lavender is starting to catch on, but there are still lots of folks who haven't tried it yet. Maybe sending out some great ideas for using lavender in sweet and savory dishes as well as beverages will encourage people to give it a try!
We will be featuring a new recipe each week, which I will post in a blog labeled Recipes, and I will also post it on Facebook and Instagram. If you make any of these recipes we would love to see your pictures of the final products! Also, if you have any recipes using lavender that you would like to share, please send them and I will post them on FB as well with credit to you! The first recipe will be posted on Monday, September 9th.
As always, we thank you all so much for your continued support. We appreciate all the feedback you send our way, and it makes us so happy to be able to spread some joy to others! Thanks for reading!
