Spring!
So here we are, only 2 days from Spring! The winter flew by, and was pretty good to us for a change. We did have a couple of weeks that had those terrible -45 wind chills, but other than that it was very mild. We had a little snow to give the lavender a drink, and now we are ready to pull of the row covers. Normally we wouldn't do this for another month, but the lavender is greening up already and we don't want those plants getting too warm under their blankets!
We are going to make a few changes for 2024 as far as attending shows goes. We have been going to Junkstock and Ralston Arena the past 4 years and have decided this spring that we will not be attending those. We are going to try to stick closer to home and try a few new shows in the Lincoln area, and to have more events here at the farm. We do still love those shows, and they have been amazing for us, but truth be told, we are just getting old. The extra hour drive time at the beginning and again at the end of the day after 8-10 hours of running the booth is just exhausting. Plus it is a long time to be away from Biscuit and Gravy, and they don't love that!
Please check out our calendar here and check out some of the new venues we will be attending. I will be updating the calendar with the tour dates and U-Pick dates here at the farm in the next couple of weeks too. We are really hoping for a plant sale in May as well, so that would be something new and fun.
I am currently working on adding a photo album type page and a recipe page to our website, so that would be a great place that we could all share the different ways we use culinary lavender. On that note, we are lucky to have our lavender buds being used in a couple of great local places. Paper Moon Pastries in Cortland, NE makes amazing lavender lattes and lavender lemonades with Sleepy Bees Culinary Lavender. A new coffee house in Seward, NE called Neutral Grounds is also featuring our buds in one of their coffee blends! We are thrilled that people are discovering what a great flavor lavender has. There is brewery in Beatrice, NE that is experimenting with our lavender for a Honey Lavender Beer that sounds amazing!
Other than than, we are just getting prepared to open the "shop" here in our house on March 23rd, doing some repairs and upgrades to the deck area, and generally getting all our ducks in a row for the busy spring season!
A goal we have for 2024 is to be able to livestream videos on TikTok. If anyone reading this is interested in seeing us working with the bees, planting and caring for the lavender and other herbs & flowers and general farm life here at Sleepy Bees, please go to our Sleepy Bees Lavender Farm page on TikTok and follow us! We have to get to 1000 followers in order to go live, and we would really love the chance to interact with you all!
Thank you all so much for your interest in our business and your support! We very much appreciate all of you. Until next time, thanks for reading!
